Remembering On Memorial Day

Today is Memorial Day, a day we remember the fallen heroes, the men and women who served and did not come home. First celebrated in 1868, Memorial Day is commemorated each year on the last Monday of May.

It's a day to show respect, visit cemeteries and memorials, particularly to honor those who have died in military service. Many volunteers place an American flag on each grave, like Arlington National Cemetery pictured below.

On this day when we remember I'd like to send out a "Thank You" to my Grandad, Stephen Hinkle.

Grandad Hinkle, my Mom's Dad, served in the Army during WWI - "The Great War." Since he passed away before I was born I don't have any personal stories, but I know he served and for that I salute. His two sons, Uncle Fred and Uncle Bobby, also served, both in Korean War.

Born: 1898 Died: 1960

The cost of freedom is always high, but Americans have always paid it. And one path we shall never choose, and that is the path of surrender, or submission. – John F. Kennedy

P.S. In closing, in showing respect it's best to not use "Happy" in Memorial Day greetings and acknowledgements. This translates to happy funeral. Instead, we remember, we respect and appreciate the Service of those who gave all so we can be free. Once again, thank you.

Make A Difference Today!

I truly believe that each and every one of us has the ability and the power to change someone's life. I am putting out a CHALLENGE to all my friends, clients, family, friends of friends, etc. Here is all we need to do. Every day this week, for one week, 1) If you see a man or woman in uniform, shake their hand and thank them for the service they provide. We are safe and Free because of them.

2) Say "Hi" to at least one person a day that you don't know.

3) Give someone a Hug. Not a relative or a loved one. Someone you don't know. Then watch them smile.

In one week, each person has the potential to change at least 21 people's lives.  Make someone smile, maybe even save someone's life. Make a difference. Try it. I promise it won't hurt.

Share, repost, re-tweet. Whatever. Let's make it happen!

Thursday's Thrifty Tip

Today is Thursday, time for your Thrifty Thursday Tip: If your tired of folks slamming your screen door then here's an easy fix. Put a couple of short beads of clear silicone caulk along the jamb at a few of the contact points. This will soften and quiet the blow. Of course be sure to let the bead of silicone dry completely before slamming shut again. And if you need help with quieting a screen door or even installing a new one, you know who to call: Super Dave.
