Thursday's Thrifty Tip is about proper care of your garbage disposal. I know, we've discussed it before, but it bears repeating. Just say "NO" to anything going into your disposal. 

NO to veggie scraps, RICE, and even fragrant citrus rinds. They will only cause heartache and needless expense. 

 

Instead get a cute drain cover, flower or strainer found very cheaply, and grab a bottle of Lavender Pine Sol. Pour 1/4 c. a time or two a week and you're good to go.

Today's Thrifty Tip is about the restroom, a.k.a., water closet, throne room, etc. You get the picture. You want to keep it smelling fresh and clean - but as you can see on the tank label DO NOT use drop ins or other toilet tank fresheners. 

These products can degrade your seals, gaskets and fixtures at a faster rate than normal. Once a rubber seal gets brittle and cracks the water will run continuously in the toilet until the assembly is replaced.

In order to keep it smelling fresh and clean pour in a 1/2 c. of Lavender Pine Sol. Now it's clean and smelling like flowers whether the seat is up or down.

Thursdays's Thrifty Tip

Today's Thursday Thrifty Tip: Don't use your garbage disposal. To keep it smelling fresh and flowery say "NO" to citrus peels and instead pour some Lavender Pine Sol in the drain.

Don't Do This!

This is a two-fold remedy for cleaning AND deodorizing. In a nut shell: citrus has a high acidity level. There are rubber and plastic parts that carry that acid away. The skin of the citrus will expand to 5 times it's normal size when left sitting in water. Try it. Then try to move that down 60 to 70 to hundreds of feet of pipe.

 Do This! 

So class, in review: $4.88 for a giant bottle of Pine Sol is a LOT less expensive than $288 for a drain cleaning. Right?
